Why Choose Tenax Hydrex (Stone Sealer)

Water and Damp Protection Built for what walls, floors and outdoor stone are genuinely up against, rather than for kitchen oil.
Goes In, Not On An impregnating sealer coats the pores from within, leaving no surface layer to peel, wear thin or cloud over.
₱1,100 Less Than Proseal That gap is what oil protection costs. Where cooking oil will never land, it is spending you can skip.
Ideal for Wet Areas Meant for bathrooms, splashbacks and stone in the open, where damp never lets up. Stocked at the Iloilo yard.

What Is Tenax Hydrex?

A water-repellent sealer for cladding, flooring and outdoor stone.

Tenax Hydrex is an impregnating water-repellent sealer for natural stone, produced by Tenax in Italy. Damp and water are what it turns away, not cooking oil, and that difference decides where it belongs.

It behaves the way Tenax Proseal does, traveling into the pore structure and working from inside the slab rather than curing into a coating. Nothing lies on top to flake, thin out or turn milky.

What separates them is the list each one repels. Water is the whole brief for Hydrex; Proseal handles water and oil together. Frying oil never reaches a facade or a pool deck, so paying for that out there buys nothing.

Reach for it on cladding, flooring, facades, pool surrounds and shower walls. Where a surface meets hot pans and salad dressing, Proseal is the correct bottle. Both sit on the shelf at the Iloilo yard.

Which Surfaces Need Hydrex?

Vertical, outdoors, and anywhere water is allowed to stand.

Floors and wall cladding

Travertine is the clearest case. Its porosity runs through the whole stone rather than sitting in the visible pits, so Hydrex is the routine treatment. The same holds for marble cladding and flooring, which we bring in per order for projects around Iloilo City.

Pool surrounds and outdoor stone

Color holds up in sunlight on granite where it does not on engineered quartz, so a lanai counter or pool surround in Paradiso Light or Salt and Pepper is Hydrex territory. Stone in the weather has a harder life than stone under a roof, so check it more often.

Bathroom walls and onyx features

Onyx is soft and porous, which is why we supply it for feature walls rather than worktops. Honey Onyx and Multicolor Onyx both take Hydrex on a wall.

What does not need it at all

Engineered quartz, every design, because a manufactured slab gives a sealer nothing to sink into. Among granites, Absolute Black, Black Galaxy, Tan Brown and Marigold are tight enough that treating them achieves nothing. How pale or dark a slab reads tells you nothing here, so go by the stone.

How Do You Apply Tenax Hydrex?

Three steps, and vertical work needs a little more care.

1

Start Clean and Bone Dry

A pore already holding water has no room left for sealer, and stone in the open holds damp longer than you would expect. Wash it down with a pH-neutral stone cleaner, then allow a dry day or two before opening the bottle.

2

Work Bottom to Top on Walls

Running upward on a vertical surface means every drip lands on stone you have already treated rather than streaking dry cladding underneath. Thin, even passes, and no flooding.

3

Buff Off Every Trace of Residue

Take the excess back off with a clean dry cloth before it sets. Anything left behind cures into a cloudy skin, and on a floor of any size that is an enormous area to put right. Keep the air moving while you work.

Hydrex is one of the stone care products we keep on the shelf in Iloilo City, alongside the cleaners that will not undo it again. Ask at the counter in Iloilo.

Does Hydrex Change How the Stone Looks?

No. Assuming you buff the excess away.

No. Everything Hydrex does happens below the surface, so there is no coating, no added gloss and no shift in color. Set a sealed wall beside an untreated one and you would not pick which is which.

Residue is the one thing that spoils that. Sealer left to dry where it lies, rather than lifted off, sets into an uneven cloudiness, and stripping that back across a large floor is a long afternoon. Move in sections with a dry cloth a step behind you.

Deepening the color is a different request needing a different bottle. Tenax Cera Fluida enriches the tone and leaves a soft sheen, and it will go over a sealed surface quite happily.

One note on unfilled travertine: the pits stay exactly as they are. Filled or unfilled is settled before the stone is laid, and sealing neither closes those holes nor alters how they read.

Does Hydrex Prevent Etching?

No. On travertine that distinction matters.

No. The job of a sealer is keeping liquid from soaking in. Acid biting into the surface is a separate mechanism, and no impregnator interferes with it.

Staining is discoloration left by something the stone absorbed. Etching is a dull patch where acid has eaten into the finish itself. Travertine, every marble and every onyx are calcium carbonate, so acid marks all of them straight through a seal that is working perfectly.

That is why we point those materials at floors and walls rather than worktops. A wall rarely meets calamansi or vinegar, so sealing genuinely does cover the day-to-day risk there. Beside a hob it would leave the bigger threat untouched.

Granite is a silicate rather than a carbonate and does not etch. Outdoors the thing to watch is not acid but how fast sun and rain wear a seal down.

Hydrex vs Our Other Stone Care Products

Four bottles, four separate jobs.

Hydrex is the water sealer

₱3,500, for walls, floors, cladding, facades and pool surrounds. The pick wherever damp is the enemy and cooking oil never appears.

Proseal adds oil protection

Tenax Proseal at ₱4,600 turns away oil as well as water, which is what a worktop is up against. Counters and vanity tops get Proseal; anything vertical or outdoors gets Hydrex.

Cera Fluida is a wax, not a sealer

Tenax Cera Fluida at ₱3,500 deepens color and lays down a soft sheen. It rides on the surface and wears away, making it a finish rather than protection. Keep it off quartz, where wax goes yellow.

Solido is an adhesive

Tenax Solido from ₱1,600 is a polyester mastic for bonding and repairing stone. It is listed here because the Tenax names get muddled at the counter in Iloilo.

How Often Should You Reseal?

When the water test says so, and outdoors that comes round sooner.

1

Test Twice a Year Indoors

Drop a little water somewhere out of sight, give it a quarter of an hour, then wipe it off. Darkened stone underneath means the seal has given up; water still sitting in beads means it has not. Marble, travertine and onyx can reach that point in as little as six months.

2

Test Outdoor Stone More Often

Sun, rain and shoes wear a seal down faster than an indoor floor ever manages. Look at pool surrounds and facades at both ends of the rainy season rather than once a year.

3

Test Where It Works Hardest

The lip of a pool, a doorway, the foot of a wall that catches splashback. Those spots give out before anything else, and a floor can want attention in one of them while the rest is untouched.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Hydrex and Proseal?

Hydrex repels water; Proseal repels water and oil. Hydrex is ₱3,500 and Proseal is ₱4,600. Walls, floors, cladding and outdoor stone take Hydrex; worktops take Proseal, because cooking oil is the real threat there.

Can I use Hydrex on a kitchen countertop?

You can, but it is the wrong tool for the job. It will not keep cooking oil out of a porous slab, and oil is what marks a kitchen worktop. The extra ₱1,100 for Proseal is worth spending anywhere food gets prepared.

Does travertine really need sealing?

Yes, and sooner than granite does. The porosity runs through the whole stone rather than sitting in the visible pits, so untreated it takes up water, oil and anything with color in it. Six months between coats is realistic.

Will sealing stop my travertine from etching?

No. Sealing blocks absorption and does nothing about chemical attack. Acid still dulls travertine, marble and onyx through a flawless seal, which is why we steer those materials towards floors and walls instead of worktops.

Does engineered quartz need sealing?

Never. Quartz is manufactured, so the resin binder gives a sealer nothing to sink into and it simply dries as a film. Quartz also has no business outdoors, since UV turns it yellow permanently.

How do I seal a wall without streaking it?

Work upward and buff the excess before it dries. Drips then land on treated stone and coats stay thin. Streaking comes from residue drying in place, not from the product itself.

Does Hydrex fill the holes in travertine?

No. Filled or unfilled is decided before installation, with resin or grout, and sealing neither closes the pits nor alters how they read. The stone is protected either way.
