Why Choose Black Forest

Highly Durable Granite sits at 6 to 7 on the Mohs scale, which is why ordinary kitchen use leaves neither scratch nor mark.
Takes the Heat Heat and pressure made this rock, and a pan lifted off the burner will not scorch it.
No Two Slabs Alike Sweeping gray veining is a product of geology, so the counter ends up with a pattern nobody else owns.
Fabricated in Iloilo City Cut, edged and fitted from our own yard and delivered anywhere in Western Visayas, with haulage costed by distance.

What Is Black Forest Granite?

A black ground broken by sweeping pale veins.

Black Forest is a dark granite carrying broad gray and white veining that runs across the slab in long, soft-edged bands. At a distance the ground reads black, while the veining lends it movement no plain black stone can offer.

That puts the stone in an unusual position. Buyers after the authority of a black counter who find Absolute Black too severe generally end up here.

No two slabs are the same. Because the veining is geological rather than printed, two slabs off one block share a character without ever matching. Picking your own material counts for more with this stone than with a uniform one.

At ₱5,000 per square meter it is the dearest of the black granites at our Iloilo yard, a figure that reflects both the pattern and the difficulty of cutting a veined slab to a layout.

How Do You Clean Black Forest Granite?

Three habits will keep the veining crisp.

1

Blot Spills Before They Sit

Oil, wine and citrus move into the pale veining considerably faster than into the dark ground. Catching a spill inside the first few minutes is what stops a patch forming along the veins.

2

Use Only Granite Cleaner

Bleach, vinegar and general-purpose sprays strip the sealer and take the life out of the polish. A cleaner made for natural stone lifts grease and attacks neither.

3

Always Keep the Surface Dry

Mineral rings left by hard water stand out against a dark polished ground. A dry cloth after the wipe clears them before they accumulate.

The Iloilo City branch keeps specially-formulated stone care products on the shelf, so nobody has to guess their way down a supermarket aisle.

How Do You Care for Black Forest Granite?

Three rules beyond sealing keep a veined slab looking new.

1

Keep a Cutting Board in Play

Any kitchen knife is softer than granite, so the counter wins the argument and the blade loses. The board is there for your knives rather than for the stone, which inverts the usual advice.

2

Mind the Edges

Of any slab, the polished edge is the most exposed part. Keep heavy pots from knocking against it, and make sure an overhang is supported wherever the counter runs past its cabinet.

3

Reseal as Needed

The water test is what tells you when. A quarter of an hour of work puts the protection back across the whole counter.

Does Black Forest Granite Need Sealing?

Dense in the dark ground, open in the pale veining.

Yes. A veined granite behaves as though there were two stones in the one slab. Tight grain in the black ground means very little goes into it, whereas the paler quartz and feldspar bands are looser and will draw up oil off unsealed stone.

Test your own slab before settling on any interval. A few drops of water onto the veining somewhere inconspicuous, fifteen minutes, then wipe. Darkened stone underneath means it is absorbing and wants a sealer; unchanged stone means the existing seal is still doing its job.

In a working kitchen that test is what tells you resealing is due. Application runs to roughly fifteen minutes on an ordinary counter: clean it, dry it out completely, put on an impregnating sealer, give it time to dwell, then buff the surplus away before hazing sets in.

Is Black Forest Granite Good for Kitchen Countertops?

Granite hardness, plus a pattern that swallows the day.

Yes. Sitting at 6 to 7 on the Mohs hardness scale, granite shrugs off ordinary kitchen use without scratching, and direct heat is something it handles where engineered quartz cannot. A pan lifted off the burner will not scorch it.

Practically as well as visually, the veining earns its keep. Crumbs, water marks and the general evidence of cooking register much less against pattern than against plain black, and plain black is what draws the complaint we hear most often about Absolute Black.

Two things repay planning. Sealing is required, as set out above. And since the pattern has direction, the layout drawing matters: decide which way the veins should run, along or across, before anything is cut.

It does well outdoors too. Granite is UV-stable, so unlike quartz it will not yellow on a lanai.

What Other Black Granites Do You Carry?

Four dark stones on the Iloilo list, each with a different amount of pattern.

Black Forest carries the most movement

Broad gray and white veins over a black ground, at ₱5,000 per sqm. Take it when the counter should be dark and still hold some visual interest.

Black Galaxy is the one that sparkles

Black Galaxy throws gold and bronze flecks over its black ground at ₱4,700 per sqm and asks for no sealer at all. Take it where you want interest but no veining.

Absolute Black is plainest of the four

Uniform, sealer-free and the most architectural of the group, also at ₱4,700. Take it where the counter ought to disappear altogether.

Black Impala is the cheapest way in

At ₱3,100 per sqm, Black Impala reads as dark gray beneath fine silver flecking. Sealing is part of the deal.

What Colors Go With Black Forest Granite?

The counter anchors the room, which frees the cabinetry to go light.

Pale gray and white cabinetry produces the strongest result, because the veining picks that color up and ties the two together. No plain black granite manages an echo of the kind.

Warm timber does well too, oak and ash in particular. Gray in the veining stops the pairing turning heavy the way a black-and-dark-wood scheme tends to.

Brushed nickel and matte black both suit it for hardware. Brass reads warmer and works where the room already carries warm tones elsewhere.

Leave the splashback quiet. Set a patterned tile behind a counter with this much movement in it and the two simply compete.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Black Forest granite or marble?

It is granite. Sweeping pale veins lead plenty of people to guess marble, but the rock is igneous, with the hardness and heat tolerance that implies. In practice that means lemon juice or vinegar reaching the surface leaves no etch, where a marble would be marked.

How much does Black Forest granite cost in Iloilo?

The slab runs ₱5,000 per square meter at Stone Depot Iloilo. Fabrication is ₱500 per linear meter, installation the same again, and a set of cut-outs ₱500.

Does Black Forest granite stain?

Yes, if it is left unsealed. Oil will go into the pale veining, and a mark on light-colored veining is not subtle. Sealed, and wiped before a spill settles, it resists staining well; the black ground is tight enough that it seldom takes up anything.

Can you put a hot pan on Black Forest granite?

Yes. Heat and pressure are what formed this rock, so a pan lifted straight off the burner will not scorch or discolor it. A trivet is still worth using, because any stone can crack if the temperature change is sudden and extreme, and an edge or a cut-out is where that stress concentrates.

Do the slabs match each other?

No, and it is worth planning around. Veining shifts from block to block, so any kitchen taking more than one slab should have them chosen side by side. Ask to see the real material at the yard rather than a sample tile before you commit.

How does Black Forest compare to Black Galaxy?

At ₱4,700 per sqm, Black Galaxy is a uniform black under bronze flecks and takes no sealer. Black Forest, at ₱5,000, brings broad veining and does want sealing. Galaxy for consistency and less upkeep; Forest for pattern.

Can Black Forest granite be used outdoors?

Yes. Being UV-stable, granite neither fades nor yellows in sunlight, which makes it sound for lanai counters, outdoor kitchens and poolside slabs, resort work out on Boracay included. Reseal rather more often outdoors, where sun and rain are harder on a surface than any indoor kitchen.

Where can you buy Black Forest granite in Iloilo?

Stone Depot carries Black Forest at its Iloilo City yard, the only branch we run in Western Visayas, and delivers from there across Panay, over to Bacolod and out to the Aklan resorts. Stock shifts, so availability is worth confirming first.

A veined slab deserves to be seen whole, since no sample tile can show you what the veining does over three meters. We are open Monday to Saturday, 8 AM to 5 PM.
